Das Gesundheitsinformationsmanagement (HIM) ist die Praxis der Beschaffung, Untersuchung und Aufbewahrung digitaler und traditioneller medizinischer Informationen, die für die Bereitstellung einer Standardpatientenversorgung unerlässlich sind. Mit der allgemeinen Computerisierung von Gesundheits- und Krankenakten werden papierbasierte Akten durch elektronische Gesundheitsakten, dh EHRs, ersetzt. Die Geräte der Gesundheitsinformatik und Informationstechnologie werden zunehmend genutzt, um die Informationsmanagementpraktiken im Gesundheitswesen effizienter zu gestalten. Sowohl Krankenhausinformationssysteme, also „HIM“, als auch Gesundheits-Personalinformationssysteme, also „HRHIS“, sind gängige Anwendungen des Gesundheitsinformationsmanagements.
