Nanostructured Waste Paper Ash Treated Lateritic Soil and Its California Bearing Ratio Optimization

Onyelowe KC

The stabilization potentials of NWPA and the CBR optimization were investigated on the treated olokoro lateritic soil. The soil was classified as an A-2-7 soil according to AASHTO classification method. From the stabilization procedure, it has been found that the admixture improved the strength characteristics of the stabilized lateritic soil for use as base material in pavement construction. With the laboratory results, a nonlinear regression relationship was formulated through the multiple regression algorithms for the California bearing ratio (R) as a dependent variable with optimum water content (w), maximum dry density (D), and percentage by weight additive of NWPA (SA) as the independent variables. The nonlinear relationship was linearized to enable the optimization operation with Simplex Linear Programming (Optimization) to be conducted. This iteration procedure was conducted and the results showed that the CBR (R) was optimized at Rmax=219.16% with x1= 48.103, x2=4.833, x3=13.45, and x4= 0.948 in the stabilization of lateritic soils with NWPA as an admixture applied in the percentages of 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15%.

PROJECT Method for Optimization of Target Model in DEA

Abbas Ali Noura

In this paper, we concentrate on performance assessment of special target model in data envelopment analysis (DEA) with use a comprehensive interactive method with name PROJECT method. Interactive methods in multiple objectives programming (MOP) are methods that can help to decision maker (DM) to generate the most preferred solution (MPS). The PROJECT method is able to obtain any efficient solution, contain nonsupport efficient solution and also identify the MPS, even in nonconvex cases. This comprehensive model belongs to the class of interactive local trade-off methods, which is generated by combination the projection of the gradient of an implicit utility function on to the tangent plane of efficient frontier and the reference-point method to search for the best compromise solution within a local region. In this study, we will use the target model since this model focuses on decreasing total input consumption and increasing total output production which results in solving one mathematical model instead of n models, also the PROJECT method to showing the decision maker (DM) preferences in the process of assessing efficiency in the target model in DEA with any prior judgments. Numerical example is examined how the DEA model efficiency analysis can be conducted using the interactive PROJECT for setting realistic target values.

Woody Species Diversity of Parkland Agroforestry in Ethiopia

Melese Worku

Parkland agroforestry system has a crucial role in social, economic and environmental value. For instance, woody tree in Parkland improve soil fertility and enhancing crop productivity. Parkland tree have a potential of AM colonization and increase soil moisture to facilitate microbial activity. Park land agroforestry is a system where farm crops are mixed with trees to supply fodder, fuel, leaf litter, medicinal herbs, fruit, timber, etc. Predictably, the farmers have only grown a single crop on one field. Also, there is a belief that crops cannot grow well in the shade of nearby trees, so trees will often be cleared from cropland. In the days when there was plenty of forest near to the village, there was no shortage of fuel, fodder, etc. But now, overcutting of fodder, firewood, timber, etc., and grazing livestock, has destroyed the forests. So farm yields have become lower and lower. More landslides have been an extra problem. By planting parkland land agroforestry, farm needs for fodder, timber, fuel, etc. can be met as well as protecting the environment.

Power Analysis for a Limited Bus Grid System with Distribution Generators

Nader Barsoum

It has been recognized recently that when injecting renewable energy source power to a load buses which connected to some distributed feeders in a power grid system, a stability problem occurs particularly when having high fault duties that exceeding the circuit breaker ratings at some substations. In this paper an analysis of power flow, short circuit, stability and protection are given in detail to an example of limited 7-bus power grid system. Comparison are illustrated between power grid with and without distributed generators regarding bus voltages, fault currents, critical power angles, selected current transformers and over current relay settings in each bus. It discusses the selection of optimum slack bus in Gauss Seidel method, and shows that the system with distributed generators is more stable although the fault currents are higher than the system without distributed generators.

Advanced Integrated Future Vehicle Telematics System Concept Modeling

Ashmika Agarwal

A paper presented on the futuristic model of telematics system which will not only provide the vehicle user guidance, emergency or road side assistance or vehicle diagnostic/ health report on data captured but will also provide in much more deeper level a real time risk of any failure or service requirement in a vehicle. This prediction will be made by highly sophisticated and very well integrated failure predictions of all the components in that vehicle of the particular lot subjected the real loads due to driving behavior the vehicle was subjected from 0 km till date. This research will also establish the level of traceability, fault detection, data integration and system integration at all tiers levels between the Vehicle manufacture to its end suppliers for achieving the best possible predictions. Later on will be developed as a platform for reliability based real-time designing of systems and components. This paper will also talk about the overall service system requirements in today’s world and changes for adaptability in it.

Although an expensive affair currently, similar disintegrated systems are well adopted in Developed nations, but how and to what extent the developing nations such as Indian industry can better adopt and use this model/ technology at a faster pace. The roles of effective production systems, safety, service, ERP, EDI and Quality systems their integration will be discussed in much more details. Not only applications such as vehicle but use of this model in any kind of machine and its maintenance will be talked about. A need for real time data based designing approach which will be required in this revolutionary will be realized in this future telematics world.
