Physical Economics and Optimum Population Density

Paul T E Cusack

Here we examine the economic problem of what is the optimum population density (300 persons/km^2)? We use mathematics from Economics, and concepts such as the marginal propensity to consume to determine it. We calculate the optimum taxation rates (48%). We invent a concept author call the Minderland, comparable to the Cusack hinterland factor (6.47). Data from the US, Europe and the Great Toronto Region are used along with Linear Regression techniques.

Relationship between SHRM and Organizational Performance among Iraqi Oil Companies

Ali Kadhim Alaraqi

Strategic human resource management (SHRM) plays a vital role to organizations success and performance. People become an essential element to organizations development. Although, extensive literature is available on the SHRM effectiveness, it is still unclear what SHRM practices can be linked with organizational performance. Thus, to fill this gap, this study aims to examine the relationship between SHRM practices and organizational performance in Iraqi oil sector. The study used a random sample of Iraqi oil sector (eight companies represents various streams). Fifteen of Iraqi’s oil industry companies are owned by the public sector representing a stratified sample, with unit of analysis representing managers and heads departments. Quantitative method (questionnaire) and structural equation modelling are utilized. Total 366 questionnaires were distributed equally to companies within the sample chosen. After initial data screening, 301 responses were used for the final data analysis using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Results indicated that SHRM practices (recruitment and selection, training and development and compensation and rewards) are directly linked with organizational performance. The study findings are useful for Iraqi oil sector in order to enhance their organizational performance through using of appropriate SHRM practices.

Women’s Education and Fertility in Sub-Saharan Africa: Channels and Influence of Education on Fertility

Theophile Ndjanmou Bieda

This paper seeks to contribute to the debate on the channels of influence of education on fertility in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). It uses individual level data of DHS of 14 countries of SSA to discuss the relative importance of the main channels that appear in the literature. The paper argues that compared to opportunity costs of children and the bargaining power of women, exposure to media and contraceptive use are the most influential channels through which education could cause fertility to decline consistently in SSA. These findings that were found robust with different measures of education and fertility suggest then, a better design of schooling policies as well as curricula in SSA, so as to minimize drop-out, reduce gender gap and prepare young girls regarding fertility concerns. In addition, contraceptive use should be promoted through media. The paper ends with a discussion on the causality issue and suggests a better setting in order to comfort its findings.

Usage Model Cooperative Learning and Learning Model Jump in Increased Motivation and Learning Outcomes

Priyono Iyon Priyono

The goal of this study is to know different study result and significant interaction among study result of student who use cooperative learning and directed learning along with who have high motivation and low motivation. By using random sampling that gets data 160 samples. While data analysis technique is variance two way analysis by questionnaire and test method. Based on the calculation and test result which be carried out to each class may be explained that there are different of study result among both learning model and motivation degree for VII grade to Indonesia Language lesson. But there are not interaction among learning method and study motivation to study result in public junior high school 4 and public junior high school 5 Trenggalek in 2009/ 2010. Based on the explanation above may be suggested that teacher to use cooperative learning model because it is proved effective to increase study result of students.

Empirical Analysis of Determinants of Patient Satisfaction: A Case Study of Primary Health Centres

Khursheed H

A cross sectional study in which information was collected from different stakeholders involved about various dimensions of primary healthcare provided by Primary Health Centres (PHCs) was done to analyze the functioning of the primary health centres of district Kulgam w.r.t the standard guidelines of Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) 2012. Out of the total staff sanctioned the deficiency was 15%. Out of the total deficiency the deficiency of doctors was 27%. School health which is the foundation of preventive care was neglected by 40% of the Primary Health Centres. Patients received only 6% of the 22.5% medicine supply available in these health centres. The Primary Health Centres focus more on the curative healthcare and ignore preventive and promotive components of primary healthcare.

Music Tempo and Manufacturing Efficiency Ratio: An Experimental Research

Rodriguez IF

This paper aims to contribute to the success of multinational organizations (MO). Despite the vast quantitative and qualitative data explaining the reasons for high or low productivity in the workplace (both, public and private organizations), more precise correlations are urgently required to maximize MO productivity ratios and pair it with the speed of today’s hyper- competitive economy. The scope of this research is limited to the physical conditions in the workplace, specifically the one related to the noise level, in this case, the type of music played on the manufacturing floor. An experimental quantitative research is conducted to describe the relationship between music tempo (IV) and efficiency (DV). To examine this concept, the present study uses a manufacturing plant located in Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Efficiency ratio of four assembly lines with 30 workers randomly selected each will be measured while listening to white noise (MO), slow music (MS), and fast music (MF). The results suggest music tempo correlates positively with efficiency ratios, the faster the music tempo is, the higher efficiency (up to a point where efficiency actually starts decreasing as music tempo increases).

More on the 7 Year Economic Cycle and the Bell Normal Curves

Paul T E Cusack

Here is a paper on mathematical economics that provides a solution to the old question as to why the economy goes through a 7-year cycle. The answer lies in astrotheology mathematical physics. The Bell Normal Curve is used to explain this phenomenon. The viscous forces in the economy, whatever they may be, must be overcome by the inertial forces. Further study of these forces should be undertaken so that the negative impact of the cycle can be overcome.

Economic Recession, Inflation, Appropriate Pricing and the Need for Price Control in Nigeria

Odion JO

This article examines the current impasse of inflation and extortionate prices of goods and services in the country. This article revealed that although the general impression given by suppliers of goods and services for the monumental increase in their prices is the current economic downturn in the country, this is actually a ruse. It is our contention in this paper that these businessmen have taken advantage of the prevailing situation to engage in product hoarding and extortionate pricing all in a bid to maximize profits and pass the buck to hapless consumers of their goods and services. It is the view of this author that in this extreme scenario, government intervention in the area of fair, reasonable and appropriate pricing of goods and services is imperative.
